Balloon Test - September 2008

BALLOON TEST PHOTOS SHOW 28-STORY HEIGHT

These photographs were taken of the red balloon that went up on September 20, 2008, at the northwest corner of the Rockville Pike and Marinelli Street, Rockville, Maryland, across the street from the White Flint Metro stop. This is the location of the proposed highest density for the White Flint Sector (to read the September 2008 White Flint I Sector Plan, Preliminary Draft Recommendations - link.

Please note the area to the west of Old Georgetown is ‘White Flint I;’ Executive Boulevard is to be ‘II.’

Planners and the Montgomery County Planning Board have proposed building heights of 300 feet, or 28 stories, for this section of the Rockville Pike. At the Planning Board meeting of September 18, 2008, Board members in fact asked whether that height was tall enough to allow for the density increases being suggested.

The photographs show the height of a 28-story building in relationship to street level, from various angles.
