Committees

The Safety Committee rejuvenated and strengthened the neighborhood relationship with the 2nd precinct of the Montgomery County Police department. We’ve had increased regular and unmarked patrols which helps make our neighborhood safer. Because of the important work of this committee we were recognized by the police department for our diligence.

 Chair: John Beamer

The Traffic Committee painstakingly recorded traffic flow and speeds in many locations and at many times of day over the past 12 months. They considered all viewpoints from the neighborhood and surrounding neighborhoods and compiled recommendations based on community input which were presented to County traffic agencies. The Traffic Committee continues to meet regularly with County agencies to institute traffic calming measures for safer and pedestrian-accessible streets.

Chair: Bill King

The Environment Committee. Stewardship of our surrounding natural resources is the primary goal of this committee. These goals include reducing pollution and improving the ambient air quality, protecting our waters, and saving our native trees.

Within the scope of the above-stated goals, our community has identified immediate areas of concern: mosquito control, preservation of our natural tree canopy, vehicle emission air pollution, and maintaining the natural beauty of our neighborhood.

Mosquito Control: Please click on the attached neighborhood map and identify havens for mosquitoes. These may include ponds, wooded areas or standing water. Please forward specific details and the map to Peggy Souza (address in neighborhood directory).

Air Quality & Trees: The Montgomery County Air Quality Protection Strategy (2003) includes a strategy to “ increase tree canopy and forest cover…” to decrease air pollutants.

Watershed Protection: Protection of water quality through land protection and sound land use practices. Volunteers to paint “Chesapeake Watershed” on our drains are needed. This could be a possible Student Service Learning hours project.

The Welcome Committee contacts each new family as soon as
possible after they have moved in to Windermere, Luxmanor, or
The Oaks, to greet them and to offer any community information
that may be helpful, as well as posting the family's own information
(as volunteered by them) in the next Greensheet.

Please e-mail new residents' names and addresses to LynnWaters@aol.com

Chair: Lynn Waters
